Weather

The best time to travel is the dry season between December and May, but this is also the busy winter tourist season, when prices rise and hotels fill up. It's cheaper to travel in summer (June to November), but keep in mind that this is the rainy season.

Belize is hot and humid year round, but cool breezes keep the temperature down. Rainfall is almost 13 ft. a year!  During the wet season, especially July to October, the regular afternoon thundershowers cool everything down for the rest of the day. In the dry season, temperatures drop from the 90s down to the 70s from February to May.

The reliable Caribbean trade wind is one of the most attractive and enjoyable attributes this coast has to offer sailors. The average trade wind blows steadily at 10 to 15 knots, with frequent increases to 20 to 25 knots especially during the winter months. East to southeast winds predominate from February to September. North to northeast winds prevail from late October through January. One thing you don't have to worry about is the waves and swell that would normally build up in the constant winds. The barrier reef is about 200 miles long and breaks up all incoming seas.
