Having chartered Sunny Skies and spending a two weeks exploring the Belizean coast and Reef, I can't imagine why I haven't taken this opportunity sooner. It's a quick and simple trip getting to Belize and there's no language barrier for us yanks. I suggest no one miss the opportunity.
Arriving in the Belize City airport and clearing customs, my travel partner and I were greeted almost immediately by Jet and invited to spend some time enjoying a beer in his bar while we waited for our Tropic Air flight to Ambergris Cay. Jet's friendliness was just our first encounter with genuinely friendly people. The charter management company personnel did everything immagineable to ensure we got to the boat and got oriented to the town of San Pedro for provisioning, shopping, and dining. The dock hands carried all our baggage, got us ice, delivered our water, sodas, beers, and just generally made us feel very comfortable. Belize is refreshingly short on beggers and shady characters offering "assistance" often found in poorer areas of Central America.
But, now to the Reef. I have a few favorite Cays. You can't beat Goff's key for an afternoon's snorkel. Easy access with lots of water getting up to the cay. Tabacco Cay is a picture postcard of paradise. I would say that Tabacco Cay is my favorite spot on the reef, but having talked with other cruisers, I fear that I might not have seen my favorite cay yet. Ones that interest me on subsequent trips are on the southern end of the reef. The Sopadillos cays get high praise from cruisers having spend more time in Belize.
