We cruised north to the Chesapeake on a quest - to enjoy one final journey in Sunny Skies and to find someone who would love and appreciate Sunny Skies (in our opinion the perfect cruising catamaran) as much as we do. We think that mission is accomplished, although there are still some steps til final closing. Here is a picture of the happy lucky couple.
And now the blog will become more focused on our experiences as we head back to the warm country.
So after a friendly morning coffee in the cockpit and some final administrivia, we headed out to provision for the trip home. We walked up to the local Giant and bought nearly everything we will need. Gordie from Sail Away was kind enough to pick us up with our piles of provisions. Sail Away has been just wonderful through this whole process. We deifnitely recommend them to anyone interested in buying, selling or chartering a catamaran. They also give instruction and they make it fun and easy to become a catamaran cruiser. Tommy, Amy, Matt, Gordie and all the guys were great to us while we were there and made the process as painless as possible.
Nevertheless, even with their great assaistance, we are not dock-people. We couldn't wait to get away from the dock and out from under the Highway 2 bridge. As we finally casted off the lines and inched our way out of the maze of catamarans, we joked about the trolls emerging from under the bridge and converting back into cruising sailors. We breathed huge sighs of relief and there was a lot of blinking and basking in the sunlight (and trying to remember the finer points of seamanship) as we got underway after nearly amonth tied at the dock.
We only went a few miles down the South River to beautiful Harness Creek at Quiet Waters but it felt like another world. We enjoyed a calming glass of wine and later a typical cruisers' dinner of chicken breast and veggies in foil from our trusty gas grill. And the much later the best night's sleep we've had in a month, a world away from the bustle and worry of the dock and the noise from the highway bridge.
